Bitcoin has become very popular among the college students of Illinois, as they have been signing up en masse to courses that focus on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
Most college students devote their time and attention to the courses of their major of choice, while other classes are taken to keep up a higher GPA. However, a course has become very popular in Illinois colleges, attracting students from various disciplines. According to professors, the courses dedicated to the study of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as well as blockchain, the technology behind them, are being occupied as soon as they’re posted.
It seems that the subject of cryptocurrency is motivating students to come to these classes. Several colleges in the state of Illinois are holding classes that specialize in Bitcoin and blockchain technology. Professors and students are conscious that knowing more about cryptocurrency and its underlying technology is crucial for building a career in finance and business.
Because of this, students majoring in those subjects are keen to know more about this subject, but they’re not the only ones. Students majoring in engineering, computer sciences, and from various other fields are signing up for these classes.
Other universities that offers crypto classes are: Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and DePaul’s Driehaus College of Business.
Some professors believe that the interest is manifested by a younger crowd, which is keen on immersing themselves in this new technology. They have also observed that older faculty and students favor studying traditional financial subjects.
“They want to hear about bitcoin. Their parents have told them it’s a tulip bubble. It’s crazy, it’s ridiculous, and their friends who invested three years ago are millionaires. … There’s clearly a generational component to this,” said Professor Gib Bassett.
Bitcoin Classes In More Universities
But not only Illinois is experiencing an increasing demand for cryptocurrency courses. Stanford is one prominent university that offers such courses. Stanford Computer Security Lab co-director, Dan Boneh, said that over one million people signed up for his online class.
MIT and the University of California are two other important institutions that also classes with the subject of cryptocurrencies. Some cryptocurrencies have noticed this demand, and as a result Dash made a donation of $50,000 to the Blockchain Research Laboratory at Arizona State University last year and recently started working together with the lab.
Dean at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU, Kyle Squires, emphasises on the importance of this subject, stating:
“The Blockchain Research Lab not only offers students early access to blockchain technologies that are transforming the nature of business transactions, it is providing them an opportunity to be part of the design process and a unique opportunity for real-world innovation and design.”
The popularity of cryptocurrency classes is unsurpising. Blockchain technology has great potential of shaping our world, and the decentralized character of Bitcoin and other digital currencies has a certain appeal for younger individuals.
Unlike their older counterparts, young college students are very eager to adopt innovative new technologies. Also, it’s wise to know as much as possible about something that will have a major impact on your career in the future.
