Dog lover arrives at shelter to take home pooch – but kitten steals their heart

A Reddit user who arrived at a shelter to pick up a dog ended up leaving with a kitten as well – and an adorable video shows why.

The clip – which has already racked up more than 93,000 votes on the social media site – shows a tiny cat meowing at the cameraperson on the other side of a cage.

His tiny paws are soaked after trying to scramble up the cage by stepping in his water bowl.

The tiny pet – who was called Paw-varotti for his loud meows – pushes his face in between the railings as he continues to meow in the clear hope he will be taken away.

Redditor psychicflea, from Dallas, Texas, US, explained the backstory behind the clip after sharing it earlier today (September 18).

“On Monday I arrived at a local shelter to transport a German Shepherd that had been pulled by a rescue to transport it to its foster,” the user wrote.

“On entering the lobby, I heard this loud, echoing yowling and I had to go see it, if course.

  • “Because of Covid there were signs everywhere not to touch the animals which only made the yowling louder. He was a singleton and for a kitten, that's tough!

“I quickly posted him to several rescue groups I transport for but at the last minute I decided, just adopt him and deal with it later. Luckily I had an extra crate with me.”

Just half an hour after posting images of the kitten, a foster was found for him.

It wasn’t long before hundreds of viewers flocked to the comments section.

“Sometimes you pick the kitten, sometimes the kitten picks you,” one user wrote.

Another commented: “My cat is lying next to me and as soon as I started watching your video he perked right up and was sniffing my phone trying to figure out where your cat was.”
