A 17-year-old girl suffered a go-karting ride from hell as she was scalped alive whilst celebrating her boyfriend's birthday.
Heloisa Cristina Heliodoro's scalp was 80% ripped off according to medics after it became caught in the kart's engine in Panoa, Brazil. on December 10. To make matters worse for the youngster, surgeons were unable to sew her hair back as it took too long to get to the hospital.
Despite all racers being given safety clothing including crash helmets, Heloisa wasn't told of the risks her waist-length hair would pose. Elizabeth, her mother said: "Her hair was pulled by the kart engine, and she suffered a scalping, lost 80% of her scalp and, today, needs medical support. She is hospitalised."

"The help itself took a long time. She was bleeding for about 30 minutes."
So long was Heloisa's wait for treatment her scalp tissue became too damaged to be sewn back successfully. She was left in Hospital de Base for a day before being transferred to Asa Norte Regional Hospital where she began treatment.
Elizabeth expressed her anger at how long it took for her daughter to receive care saying: ""We wanted to warn people. It wasn't just hair loss, physical. There was damage.
