Evil serial killer and child molester who slaughtered family dies of cancer
Convicted child-molester and killer Joseph E. Duncan has died of brain cancer while in prison.
The 58-year-old, who slaughtered three children and two adults, had spent 16 years on death row before he passed away at around 2.30am yesterday.
Evil Duncan was diagnosed with the terminal illness last year and his attorneys revealed that he did not have long left to live.
One of his victim’s mothers today welcomed his death saying: "The world is a more beautiful place."
Duncan was sentenced to death in 2007 for the murder of nine-year-old Dylan Groene, his brother Slade Groene, 13, his mother Brenda Groene, 40 and her fiance Mark McKenzie, 37 in Idaho, USA.
He broke into the Groene’s family home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in May 2005, kidnapping the two youngest children; eight-year-old Shasta Groene and nine-year-old Dylan, before savagely bludgeoning Slade, Brenda, and Mark to death.
Duncan held Dylan and Shasta captive for weeks in a cabin in Montana, molesting and then killing Dylan before eventually returning Shasta to a restaurant in her home town.
After his arrest, DNA evidence also linked him to the murder of ten-year-old Anthony Martinez of Beaumont, California in April 1997, who was killed while Duncan was on parole for a rape charge in Washington.
Anthony's body was found 15 days after he was snatched while playing outside his home.
After hearing that Duncan had passed away last night at a hospital in Indiana, Anthony’s mother Diana Martinez said: "The sun is a little brighter today. My soul is lighter. The world is a more beautiful place without the evil that is Joseph Duncan.
"God chose to make his end a long-suffering one and I believe that is fitting. The horror of his thoughts consumed him."
Anthony’ father, Ernesto, added: "While I would've liked to witness his execution, knowing he is now standing before God being held accountable for what he has done, what he did to my son, and the horrible crimes he committed to others, that is the real justice."

During investigations into Duncan’s crimes, it emerged that the serial killer had videotaped many of his sick, twisted acts against the Groene family, which one investigator admitted "shook him to his core".
He was also linked to the killings of two young girls in Seattle in the 1990s.
Duncan died at a hospital in Terra Haute, Indiana, near the federal prison he was serving his sentence on federal death row.
