Jasmine Hartin accuses husband of keeping their kids away from her after she killed Belize cop
SOCIALITE Jasmine Hartin has accused her husband of keeping their kids away from her after she allegedly killed a Belizean police officer.
The 32-year-old who was charged with manslaughter, filmed herself chasing Andrew Ashcroft – the son of British billionaire, Lord Michael Ashcroft.
In the video obtained by the Daily Mail, Hartin was heard saying: "Why won't you let me see the kids Andrew? Why won’t you let me see the children?"
Hartin was charged with manslaughter by negligence in the shooting death of Superintendent Henry Jemmott, 42.
"Why are you stopping me from being at my house and seeing my kids Andrew? You don’t want to be on camera?" she asked him in a hotel kitchen.
"Why are you keeping my children from me Andrew? You lied to my whole family. Let me see my children," she quizzed.
She follows the father of her two twins Charlie and Elle as he repeatedly pleaded with her to "stop".
Another female voice from off camera adds: "It’s going in the newspaper Andrew. You lied to my family Andrew."
She was heard saying: "Security is literally stopping me from seeing my children right now. Wow, so you’ve been instructed by Andrew to stop me from seeing my children? That’s correct?
Referring to Ashcroft, she adds: "He’s gonna rot in hell for this. Like I’m not going through enough."
It's been reported by DailyMail.com that the argument broke out at the Alaia Hotel, which Hartin ran with her husband before the killing of Jemmott.
Hartin was detained following the discovery of the body of Henry Jemmott on a dock in San Pedro.
The mum-of-two reportedly insisted she shot Jemmott by accident. He had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.
Police Commissioner Chester Williams said a single gunshot was heard and cops found a woman on a pier with what appeared to be blood on her arms and on her clothing.
The gun involved belonged to Jemmott.
Hartin, a Canadian national, has been living in Cayo, on the opposite side of Belize to her husband and children, since she was released two weeks ago on bail of £10,000.
She was arrested in the early hours of May 28 after the father-of-five was found dead in the water beside the pier.
Hartin is said to have described the incident as a “living nightmare”, telling cops in a statement: “I picked up the gun and tried to eject the magazine clip but it was stuck.
“I struggled with it, trying to get the magazine out, when the gun suddenly went off.
"I had no idea it still had a bullet in the chamber.”
She added: “Henry fell back on top of me. I was pinned down and he was bleeding all over me.
"As I was wriggling to get out from under him, to get free so I could check to see if he was OK, he slipped into the water.”
The Mail on Sunday said socialite Hartin told police that Jemmott gave her the gun so she could practice her shooting skills.
She has been charged with manslaughter by negligence and could face up to five years in jail, or be let off with a £7,000 fine.
The pair had reportedly been friends for a number of years and he suggested she armed herself after an incident at a party when a man became aggressive towards her.
“He told me I needed to get a gun for my own personal protection,” she said.
Hartin allegedly told another inmate at San Pedro police station where she was being held that she was not responsible for the killing and the shot was actually fired from a passing boat.
But after spending the weekend in jail, she gave a statement in the presence of her attorney, saying that the off-duty officer was showing her how to handle the gun after they'd enjoyed a few drinks together.
On the night of the shooting Jasmine met Jemmott and the pair drank wine and whiskey at the pier in the Banana Beach resort, where they sat chatting and listening to music.
After Jemmott has been shot Jasmine screamed for help, alerting nearby security guards, who ran from a nearby hotel raced to the scene to find her pacing up and down on the pier.
One person picked up the gun while a shocked Jasmine sat down on rocks before blood was swabbed from her arm.
Meanwhile, Jemmott’s widow has told The Sun on Sunday that he had never mentioned Jasmine to her.
Romit Wilson said: “The whole thing has been a big surprise.”
