Sausage dog bags care home job and cuddles residents after ‘sensing’ they’re ill
A five-month-old sausage dog pup has been welcomed into a care home as a therapy dog as she comforted residents during their final days.
Lady is a five-month-old Dachshund who's bringing happiness to the elderly residents at Cleveland House Bupa Care Home in West Yorkshire.
The four-legged wellness champion has already become a hit with everyone she meets since her introduction into the care home on August 26 – on International Dog Day.
Lady belongs to the manager of the care home, Leanne Snowden, who has been taking her pet to work for the residents to cuddle, Mirror reports.
Leanne said: “Lady brings so much joy to our residents, they all love her, and Lady is so loving towards them too.
"She is happy to sit with them and to have a cuddle and she will always play along with them. When Lady runs off into the lounge to try to get more attention from our residents, they all think it’s highly hilarious watching me trying to catch her!
“We have a resident called Joyce who recently became unwell. Joyce adores Lady and she will often ask for her to come visit, to brighten up her day. The interaction between them is so lovely to see, Joyce’s face just lights up!”
According to her owner, Lady can sense when a patient is unwell and makes an effort to comfort them through difficult times.

She added: “Lady is very loving and senses when a resident is not well. She recently brought so much joy to a resident in her final days, just laying with her and cuddling her.”
Cleveland House offers residential and nursing care, as well as support for people with Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, and conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease.
Lady’s role at the home is a busy one, with mornings spent providing pet therapy sessions, followed by a run around the gardens chasing butterflies.
Lady’s day culminates in an afternoon of fetch with the residents in the lounge, with care home resident Geoffrey a regular participant.
Geoffrey said: “I love Lady and I really enjoy cuddling her and playing fetch in the lounge. I’m looking forward to getting stronger and more mobile so that I can take Lady for a walk in the gardens, very soon!”
