A Texas man shot at code enforcement and police officers Wednesday over lawn care before barricading himself inside a home that eventually caught fire, police said.
One person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and residents were asked to avoid the area, Fox affiliate KTBC-TV reported. An Austin police spokesperson told Fox News that it was unclear if the injured person was the barricaded suspect.
Officers and city code enforcement personnel arrived at the home in the 10600 block of Pinkney Lane around 9:15 a.m. to conduct a standby for lawn maintenance at the time of the shooting, Austin Police Officer Jose Mendez said.

“They attempted to go there and cut the lawn for him, and this is the reaction they got,” he said.
He said the neighborhood homeowners association had gone through the process of getting code enforcement involved over issues with the lawn.
As everyone was outside, they “took fire” from the resident inside the home, police said. They were able to escape the gunfire and SWAT officers were called to the scene and a standoff ensued.
Authorities did not know if the suspect deliberately shot at the people outside or fired into the air.
During the standoff, the man was alone inside but refused to communicate with authorities. He was described as someone in his 50s, Mendez said.
He said police were aware the home contained several firearms.

He added that authorities have “had involvement” with the man for previous welfare check calls.
“He seems to isolate himself so we’ve never been able to establish that communication with him,” Mendez said.
