‘Voodoo’ nurse trafficked women and forced them to drink worm-riddled blood
A twisted nurse who enslaved vulnerable girls and subjected them to voodoo spells including drinking worm-riddled blood and devouring chicken hearts has been ordered to hand over £184,000 to authorities.
Evil Josephine Iyamu, 54, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars in 2018 for trafficking her victims from remote Nigerian villages into dodgy European dens.
But Iyamu, whose heinous crimes saw defenceless refugees charged up to £31,000 for perilous journeys with threats of gang rape and shootings, was further punished with the asset retrieval at Birmingham Crown Court this month.
The grim criminal was known for dressing in lavish clothes and refused to wear shoes that cost less than £700, Birmingham Live reports.
Her hideous criminal empire was crushed after cops interviewed a woman in a sex den on the Luxembourg-German border and alerted UK forces who arrested her at Heathrow Airport with seven mobile phones.
During the original conviction, she was found guilty of five counts of facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation and one of attempting to prevent the course of justice.
Judge Richard Bond told her: “You showed a complete disregard for the welfare of these women.
“You saw them not as living, breathing human beings but as commodities to earn you large sums of money.
“All five of your victims had to be rescued from the boat they were on before being put into a camp in Italy. You understood the potential dangers, you simply did not care.”
This week, Birmingham Live reported Iyamu had even been trying to enter the world of politics in Nigeria.

She campaigned to gain a place as an elected representative in the Edo State political HQ, The House of Assembly for ruling political party All Progressives Congress.
After the recent confiscation ruling, NCA Senior Investigating Officer Kay Mellor said: “Confiscation orders are a key tool which provide us with the capability to really hit criminals where it hurts – in the pocket.
“Iyamu was calculated, manipulative and motivated by money. Not only is she serving a hefty prison sentence, but she won’t be living a luxury lifestyle when she comes out.”
