Woman arrives at dream beach house trip to find blood stains and broken windows

A woman turned up to a dream beach house and discovered the property was smashed up with blood stains inside.

The traveller has demanded a refund after she allegedly paid $102 ( £81.15 ) for a two-night stay at the property in Invercargill, New Zealand.

Footage revealed the shocking conditions and showed the accommodation featured broken windows, mould and blood on the laundry tub.

The woman, who asked for anonymity, claimed there was no running water at the rotting property and said the power sockets were broken at the Dune Cres residence.

On Tuesday ( May 31 ), she travelled 860km under the belief that the property was pet-friendly and had a washing machine and wi-fi, reports Stuff.

The listing said the property is the "closest house to the local beach in all of Invercargill."

The holidaymaker, who said she booked the property on Expedia, commented: "When I saw the price tag that kind of alarmed me, and I thought why is it so cheap, but then I don’t really know Invercargill and I thought maybe it was because it was so far out.

“I didn’t look at the reviews – I was literally on the road."

The owner of the accommodation reportedly agreed to meet her at 10 am.

“It was a mess. It looked like a dump yard,’’ she added, as she described the property.

"It was disgusting."

She alleged that the owner told her that homeless people had broken in which is why the windows were smashed with glass on the floor.

It has been reported that the broken windows caused the "freezing" conditions which couldn't be eased due to there reportedly being no wood on the fire.

The woman said the owner went outside to phone his internet provider due to the wi-fi not working and said she couldn't even charge her phone.

She claimed the home was filthy throughout and alleged that the shower "hadn't been cleaned for six months" and still had a toothbrush in the sink.

Due to the issue of no working water, the owner reportedly offered to "bring some buckets of water around" for her.

The woman said she has since asked the man to remove the listing, which said: ‘’The house is fairly quaint (old) and I have been slowly renovating it as funds allow, so please don't expect hotel quality.

“We're in Autumn now, so there's a cold breeze outside, you'd have to wrap up warmly to go for a stroll on the Oreti Beach [sic].”

She said it was the "worst accommodation" she has ever stayed in and believes the host relies on "last minute bookings where …people are desperate."

The Daily Star contacted Expedia for comment.
