Kim Jong-un checks out Russia’s hypersonic missile Putin calls ‘absolute weapon’

Kim Jong-un has checked out Russia's 'unstoppable' hypersonic missile that Vladimir Putin calls 'the absolute weapon' during his trip to Russia.

On Wednesday (September 13), the pair met for four hours at Russia’s spaceport in the Far East of the country before he met with Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Saturday and inspected Russia's nuclear-capable weapons.

The 39-year-old, in Russia to discuss possible military cooperation between the two countries, had an official snoop around the Knevichi airfield in Vladivostok.

Russian reports state that Shoigu guided him round nuclear-capable strategic bombers including the Tu-160, Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 – and the country's latest hypersonic Kinzhal missiles.

Putin hailed the powerful Kinzhal hypersonic missile system as “the absolute weapon” back in 2018.

He said his armed forces were already using Kinzhal and had displayed its capability to launch the missiles at Mach 20 – equivalent to 15,345 mph.

However, the Kinzhal missile recently suffered a blunder when it fell from a warplane headed for Ukraine and fell in a Russian field.

Later on Saturday Kim and Shoigu inspected the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate of Russia's Pacific Fleet moored in Ulysses Bay in the port city, according to TASS.

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation said in a statement said that Kim "got a close look at modern missile weapon control systems located at the ship's central command centre during his visit".

It continued by stating that Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, told the North Korean leader and Shoigu about the expanded capabilities of the new control systems.

The systems allow the Kalibr sea-based cruise missiles to be effectively used against sea and coastal targets at a distance of more than 1,500 km.

On Friday, Kim visited a Russian aircraft plant that produces advanced fighter jets, including the Sukhoi Su-35, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

During his trip to the Yuri Gagarin Aviation Plant, Kim said he was "deeply impressed" with the advanced state of Russian aerospace and aviation technology.
