Elon Musk Admits Tesla’s Latest Self-driving Software Update Is "not So Great"

Luxury electric car maker Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has agreed that the beta 9.2 version of the Full Self Drive does not do a great job and the engineers are trying their best to make it better ad efficient.

The company recently got embroiled in a controversy as the National Highway Traffic Safety Association has launched a probe against the company, with two senators calling its FSD system a marketing gimmick earlier this month.

Musk, in his characteristic manner, took to Twitter to express his opinion about the technology on board on his car on Monday. He tweeted, “FSD Beta 9.2 is actually not great imo, but Autopilot/AI team is rallying to improve as fast as possible. We’re trying to have a single stack for both highway & city streets, but it requires massive NN retraining.”

Tesla started with its FSD program back in 2016 when he assumed that the complete automation is just just a couple of years to go. He had said, “I really would consider autonomous driving to be basically a solved problem. I think we’re basically less than two years away from complete autonomy.”

Tesla started with charging $5,000 for the technology which is now available for $10,000.

The beta program, when complete, will take the level of automation to Level 3, with level 5 being a technology where a car can completely guide itself under any circumstances. The automation system on-board in the Tesla model 3 and Model Y are yet to be perfected.

On Monday, Musk also put out another tweet saying that he has recently tested the latest beta version of the FSD and it is “much improved”. He said, “Just drove FSD Beta 9.3 from Pasadena to LAX. Much improved!”
