Relief for homeowners after “debt” cleared and meter reading rectified

Changes in occupancy can be one of riskier areas for confusion and after six months of wrangling with supplier Ovo and with the situation fast deteriorating Minal Sharma and her husband contacted Crusader, explaining: “We are happy to pay for what we have used, but not for something that has been carried over from previous tenants.”

Ensuring they took and filed timely meter readings indicating a vacant property, they were at a loss to know what had gone wrong.

“No gas was used during the period, we had a smart meter installed and the supply was turned off for a month before the sale,” added Minal.

Thankfully all has been set straight, with the debt action stopped, after we alerted Ovo.

“We are very sorry for the delay in resolving this case,” said a spokesperson.

“We can confirm the account balance and meter readings are now correct and we’ve cleared the outstanding amount as a gesture of goodwill.”

It’s Crusader’s understanding the trouble was caused by an estimated meter reading recorded during the changeover. [Names have been changed]
