The bloc came under fire last week after backing Italy’s move to block shipments of the AstraZeneca vaccine – which was developed with Oxford University – to Australia. The move was widely criticised with politicians saying the bloc are “tearing up the rule book”.
Ross Clark, columnist for the Spectator and Telegraph, told talkRADIO how the latest move could backfire badly on the EU and could even lead to an exodus of investors and businesses.
Now, Express.co.uk readers have hit back at the bloc claiming Brussels didn’t want the AstraZeneca vaccine at first but now don’t want “anyone else to have any”.
One person said: “To all those businesses in the vassal states being frustrated with the pettiness of your trading bloc and the permanent threat of the euromark collapse.
“Britain is open for business.
“We’ll make you welcome, help you settle in an open, free democratic society and assist in your transition.
“There may well be tax incentives for you to relocate to a part of the UK of your choosing.
“Come on over, the possibilities are endless!”
Someone else said the EU are acting like babies and said: “They didn’t want AZ vaccine now they want it all and don’t want anyone else to have any.
“Why on earth would anyone want to deal with these BABIES?”
Another reader said the EU blocking the vaccine to Australia shows the bloc is “nothing more than a protectionist” bloc.
They said: “Blocking legally acquired vaccines to Australia is not a smart move by the EU.
“It adds more credence to the fact that the EU is nothing more than a protectionist block, a particularly nasty one at that.”

Someone else said: “Brussels and the EU deserve all they get and much more besides.
“They appear to think they can make rules and then tear them up when it suits them.
“The EU have shown the world how petty and child-like they are over Brexit and also by triggering Article 16 and now the world is witness to the AZ vaccine.”
A fifth said how the “genocidal behaviour” of the EU deserves a boycott from all pharmaceutical companies.
They said: “The EU ordered ‘Italy’s move’ to block shipment of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine destined for Australia! Italy caved in which is shameful.
“The genocidal behaviour of the EU deserves a boycott from all leading pharma companies with a sense of responsibility.”
This is the latest in a bitter feud between the EU and the UK over coronavirus vaccine supplies.
The European Commission implemented border controls at the end of January after doses of the vaccine fell short of the planned orders for the bloc.
After a recent EU leaders summit, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said there is “room for improvement” over the AstraZeneca vaccine contract.
Several EU countries said the AstraZeneca vaccine should not be given to the elderly, citing sufficient data.
However, France, Germany, Italy and even Denmark have now all U-turned and allowed the vaccine to be given to all elderly citizens.
