Rishi Sunak today hit out at Sir Keir Starmer’s “weak” stance on the upcoming nurses’ strike. The Prime Minister and the Labour leader clashed over the walkouts in this week’s PMQs.
Hitting back at Sir Keir, Mr Sunak said: “The honorable gentleman says to get round the table, but we all know what that means Mr Speaker.
“That is just simply a political formula for avoiding taking a position on this issue.
“If he thinks the strikes are wrong he should say so.
“If he thinks it’s right that pay demands of 19 percent are met then he should say so.
“What’s weak Mr Speaker is he’s not strong enough to stand up to the union.”
It comes as the Royal College of Nursing is calling for a 19.2 percent pay rise that the Government has said is unaffordable.
Nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland look set to take strike action tomorrow with a second date planned for the following Tuesday.
