In damming attack on his own party on LBC, Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Barr Khalid Mahmood accepted that Labour has lost their core voters in the local elections and must work hard to get them back from the Conservatives. He admitted “core voters” no longer feel “at home” in Labour which he accepted is a result of being taken over by the “London-based bourgeoisie” and “woke brigade”. He promised to do as much as he can to clear this issue out and get traditional Labour voters back.

Mr Mahmood said: “Obviously as the election is showing and the results are still coming in, is that we are losing touch with our core vote.

“We have the results in Hartlepool which should’ve never ever ever gone to the Tory party.”

In a damming realisation, the Birmingham-based MP accepted: “And it’s those issues that those people are not feeling at home with the Labour Party.”

He went on by adding how about has let down its core voters, saying: “These are our true voters, this is what the Labour Party was established on: Working people, working with the trade unions, working with the Labour movement.”

He added: “And because we have forgotten them they are not feeling comfortable with us.”

LBC host Matt Frei then suggested how Labour’s new core is the “brigades of woke social media warriors” and “London-based bourgeoisie” and what can be done about it.

The MP replied saying “that’s exactly what I want to change” adding how the Labour Party “we will have to” chuck this ‘woke brigade’ out of the party in order to stand a chance in future elections.

Mr Mahmood said: “We need to go back to our basics and look at those people that will support us and be with them and support them and to make sure they come back to us.”

He concluded by saying: “They’ve gone to the Conservatives but we need to get them back and we need to make them feel comfortable that the Labour Party is there home.”

Earlier Shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds was grilled by BBC’s Naga Munchetty over the direction of the Labour party after the disastrous election results.

Ms Munchetty asked:“What is the Labour Party changing into, because that’s what a lot of the voters say they just don’t know. They just don’t know what Labour stands for?”

The Shadow Home Secretary replied: “Labour’s values will never change we fundamentally and always will believe in building a more equal society where every single person in that society is valued for their contribution to it.”

But Ms Munchetty interjected slamming: “But I genuinely don’t know what that means!”

But in a reflective moment the MP accepted: “We have to ask ourselves why it is that people have not seen Labour as the answer to the problems they face in their everyday lives and the injustices we see.

“What’s happened over the last four defeats in general elections, whether its in Hartlepool other places as well.”

The Tories have made major gains across the country in the 2021 local elections so far, stealing the Hartlepool constituency from Labour in a by-election on Friday and ousting the Labour party from councils including Harlow and Nuneaton.
