Likely to be a high topic in the Commons today is the potential suspension of Tory MP, Owen Paterson, who broke standards rules. The Conservative MP for North Shropshire and a former minister used his position as an MP to benefit two firms that paid him as a consultant.
He faces a 30-day Commons suspension and a possible byelection because he committed an “egregious” breach of lobbying rules.
Mr Paterson called the probe unfair and many believe he will have the backing of the Government.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that the current system was “damaging public confidence” and “may require fixing”, hinting at support for Mr Paterson.
His seat in the House of Commons would be at risk if MPs vote to suspend him for more than 10 days and if 10 percent of his North Shropshire constituents were to sign it, there would be a byelection.
Ms Rayner, Labour’s Deputy Leader, is expected to ask tough questions on why MP’s are supporting Mr Paterson and the showdown between the two parties is set to be huge.
