The Music Man Project choir and the Royal Marines Band recorded the track Music Is Magic, in aid of disabled musicians. The choir, which was presided over by Sir David for 20 years and sang at his funeral, is also getting involved with the late politician’s labour of love, the Children’s Parliament.
Backed by The Daily Express and Wakelet Microsoft 365, it will take over the Commons chamber for a debate next spring.
The project is meanwhile run on daily by Saint Pierre School, Leigh-on-Sea, in Sir
David’s former constituency, Southend West.
The MP of nearly 40 years was stabbed to death at a constituency surgery in the Essex town in October 2021.
The Music Man Project he supported was founded by David Stanley in 2000.
Mr Stanley said: “My mind is buzzing with ideas of how The Music Man Project and the Children’s Parliament can work together.
“We’re also delighted to be involved with the takeover of Parliament next year – and I think issues around access and opportunity for people with learning disabilities is an excellent idea to debate.”
Mr Stanley, who is also the Government’s Disability and Access Ambassador for Arts and Culture and SEND Music Advisor for the National Plan for Music Education, said the MP was his charity’s biggest champion.
He explained: “Owing to the nature of their learning disabilities, you’ve got many people out there who have got no way of changing their own destiny.
“I do this through music by putting them out there.
“David believed in that and he really believed in them.
“He would be beaming with pride. I can picture him looking down saying, ‘Go on, David’ and he’d be saying the same to the students as well.”
