“Odd rumble of thunder” for Britain today as clouds and showers, potentially heavy in some south-east areas, “are already rolling their way for the west”, said BBC meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas. The rain, however, is expected to clear away overnight to allow for a “quieter and drier” night for all of the UK. “Low pressure from the northwest” will bring a bit of rain at times during the weekend for some areas in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with England and Wales staying “predominantly dry” with temperatures up to 23C, warned Ms Keith-Lucas.
Ms Keith-Lucas said: “Fairly grey sky out there for some of us but some early brightness around.
“It’s going to be a bit up and down through the course of the day.
“We’ve got a couple of areas of rain moving in from both the southwest and from northwest as well.
“So both these areas are going to be tracking their way gradually eastwards through the day.
“Some brighter skies across parts of eastern Scotland this morning.
“Further south it’s a damp start to the day with this rain moving its way eastwards across England and Wales.
“Could be the odd rumble of thunder in the west as well.
“Some brighter skies, the eastern parts of Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland.
“The clouds and the showers are already rolling their way in from the west and some of them could be quite heavy.
“The breeze picking up along with these showers as well.
“So that area of rain in the east gradually clears away and then we’ve got brighter skies developing behind it, but also that scattering of showers just moving eastwards through the day.
“Temperatures somewhere between about 13C to 19C degrees.
“Could be the odd rumble of thunder if you do catch one of those heavier showers.

“Then overnight tonight, the showers clear away.
“It’s looking quieter and drier with temperatures staying reasonably mild between about 8C to 11C degrees to kick off the weekend.”
As we approach the weekend, Ms Keith-Lucas added: “Low pressure trying to move in from the northwest, which will bring a bit of rain at times for Scotland and Northern Ireland as well.
“England and Wales predominantly dry and it’s going to be warming up a little bit through the weekend with temperatures on Sunday for some of us up to 23C degrees”.
