Speaking to BBC News, weather presenter Darren Bett warned of a weather front that is set to hit northern areas of the UK and expected to stay until the end of the week. He said there will be sunshine in areas but the strong winds will make it feel much cooler. Wednesday will see highs of 21C before dropping as we head towards the weekend.

Mr Bett said: “For many areas it is going to be a case of some sunshine, but some heavy, potentially thundery downpours and a stronger wind as well.”

He added how there is an amber rain warning in place in North Easter Scotland which is set to see an astonishing 90ml of rainfall by the end of Wednesday which is expected to cause flash flooding.

The forecaster added: “Showers coming in from the west, those will push their way eastwards through the day, they could be heavy rain and some thunder in there as well.

“Some sunshine away from the showers but they are moving on a little bit more quickly today because of that breeze.”

He warned of gusts of up to 40mph to blast through the English Channel and along the south coast.

The forecaster added: “Because of the breeze it will feel cooler and temperatures are going to be lower than yesterday.”

Wednesday will see highs of 21C in Norwich, 20C in London, 19C in Birmingham, 19C in Newcastle, and 17C in Aberdeen.

He added: “The rain does ease off as we head overnight with the showers that we have further south in England and Wales become fewer but more rain coming into Northern Ireland.

Mr Bett went on to say: “It does not look quite as wet on Thursday but there is another sneaky little low-pressure system arriving in the southwest later in the day.

“We have got some rain to start with in Northern Ireland  that will push its way southwards, a lot of cloud 

“But it’s a much drier day for northern parts of Scotland, some patchy rain for northern England and north Wales.

“Sunshine to the south of that, in the southwest we are going to find some rain later on but a drier day on Thursday.”

Thursday will see highs of 21C in Norwich, 20C in London, 19C in Birmingham, 18C in Plymouth, and 18C in Belfast.

The weather presenter said Friday will see some showers with patches of sunshine.

Friday will temperatures linger around the late teens and early twenties but remain cloudy.

But he warned how the weekend “does look drier” with some sunshine at times but “it is not going to be that warm”.
