Beheaded woman ‘killed by friend’ found with chilling discovery in pocket

A woman allegedly beheaded by her friend had a Bible verse in her pocket when her body was found, a court heard.

The headless body of Mee Kuen Chong was found in woods in the Devon seaside town of Salcombe in June last year.

Known as Deborah, Ms Chong, 67, had allegedly been attacked just over a fortnight earlier by Jemma Mitchell in her London home.

Mitchell, 38, is accused of plotting to inherit the estate of her friend – a devout Christian who had a Bible verse in her Marks & Spencer jacket pocket when her beheaded corpse was discovered.

Pathologist Dr Deborah Cook told The Old Bailey that the quote from the Bible was found on scraps of paper.

Among Ms Chong's other possessions recovered on her body were a plastic wallet, an Oyster card and business cards for an evangelical church, a GP and a dentist.

She was also found with a purple handbag that contained a camera, a tote bag and orange rope which, the prosecution claims, matched some found at Mitchell's home.

Dr Cook said: "It was apparent that the head and at least the first two bones that form the spine were absent. The larynx at the front of the neck was also missing."

The court has previously been told how Ms Chong suffered from mental illness and was regarded as a vulnerable person, who doctors said had a "perceived relationship" with the-then Prince Charles, believing that she could communicate with him via YouTube.

In 2015, Ms Chong was noted as having schizo-affective disorder and acute stress according to GP records and she also suffered an episode of mania with psychotic symptoms five years ago.

Her condition had stabilised by 2018 when she was discharged by the community mental health team but, in May of last year, she was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Prosecutors claim Mitchell murdered Ms Chong with the intention of faking her victim's will, stealing her money and finishing the repairs to her home in Willesden, north-west London.

Mitchell denies the charges and the trial continues.
