The three-year-old boy who tragically died in hospital after "a devastating" farm dog attack has been remembered by his family in a heartbreaking tribute as he is pictured for the first time.
Daniel Twigg has been remembered as a "happy, kind and caring little boy who was loved by all who knew him."
His family added that he brought them "many laughs and was a comical character."
Little Daniel was living on the Rochdale farm with his family who were renting their home where the incident happened, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Paramedics rushed to the scene shortly after 1pm on Sunday (May 15), to reports the youngster had been injured.
He was taken by ambulance to hospital but soon after was sadly pronounced dead.
A 48-year-old man has been arrested under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 after handing himself in to custody where he remains for questioning.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) says of the several dogs seized from the property of Daniel's death, one cane corso has been humanely destroyed.
Police added that Daniel was with a number of dogs in the outdoor area surrounding his home prior to being found with serious injuries and enquiries in relation to the animals are ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “I send my condolences to Daniel’s loved ones. This is a heart-breaking time for them, specially trained colleagues are supporting them.
“Though a man is in custody, our investigation is very much ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and ensure any criminal offences in relation to Sunday’s incident are identified and prosecutions sought.
“Meanwhile, officers are also reviewing other incidents of note. Due to previous contact, GMP’s Professional Standards Branch has referred the incident for review by the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
For many, the ancient Italian Cane Corso breed make for a much loved pet but its astonishing strength makes it a formidable opponent for even larger animals it was tasked to hunt and guard against for centuries.
With a brutal force of 650 to 700 psi, the Cane Corso boasts the second most powerful bite of all the dogs in the world, more so than the German shepherd, Rottweiler, American bulldog and even the massive English mastiff.
Last year Cane Corsos were blamed for the deaths of five people in the United States, Animals 24-7 reports.
