‘Cannibal snake’ swallows another headfirst in front of beachgoer in wild moment

A bloke who went to a beach for a relaxing walk was greeted by the horrific sight of one of the world's rarest cannibal snakes in action.

Australia-native Cody Green was having an evening stroll on Binningup Beach in Western Australia.

While there, he came across an extremely odd sight, as he spotted two snakes seemingly fighting.

The scuffle saw them roll down a nearby sandbank and plop themselves right in front of Green.

At this point, he decided to take his phone out and start filming them when he initially thought they were mating.

However, it soon became clear that one of the giant snakes was actually eating the other – essentially, he was watching snake cannibalism, reports the Mail.

It later emerged that the hungry snake was a very venomous and very lethal Dugite, which can only be found in Western Australia.

The shocking video shows how the metre-long beast crushed and killed its enemy, and then proceeded to eat him.

The Dugite is known to be a cannibal in the wild, as Mr Green found out first-hand.

According to the experts at the Australian Museum: “In the wild, the Dugite eats a variety of vertebrate prey including frogs, lizards, snakes, birds and mammals.

“However, the two largest groups of prey are lizards and house mice.

“They are known to be cannibalistic in the wild, and individuals can swallow snakes almost as large as themselves.

“Dugites actively search for prey sheltering in holes, crevices, tussock grasses and under surface debris.

“The snake employs both venom and constriction to subdue its prey.”

They also warn that it is an extremely dangerous snake to humans.

They add: “Because of the snake’s size and highly toxic venom the Dugite is considered to be very dangerous to humans.

“Its prevalence in residential areas and nervous disposition have helped make it responsible for approximately 70% of all snake bites reporting to Perth hospitals, but thanks to prompt and effective intervention, there has been only one recorded fatality."
