Captain Sir Tom Moore ‘wouldn’t want big funeral’ as he hated fuss being made
Captain Sir Tom Moore wanted a low-key funeral, his family have revealed.
The World War Two veteran and fundraiser, who died aged 100 on Tuesday, hated the thought of a fuss being made.
More than 230,000 people have signed a petition for him to have a state funeral.
But grandson Tom Teixeira said: “I don’t think grandad would want a grand funeral.
"He’d like a small, intimate service with just the family. ‘March in, march out,’ he’d say. ‘Pay your respects, then move on, get on with your lives’.”
Tom also paid tribute to his grandad’s spirit and said he believed when he died he would see his wife Pamela, who passed away in 2006.
He said: “He wasn’t just a war hero and a fundraising machine. To us, he was a family man. He believed he’d be reunited with grandma.
"He wasn’t afraid of death.”
Captain Sir Tom became a hero to millions when he walked laps of his garden, raising £39million for NHS charities.
However, he was targeted by online trolls after he went on a family trip to Barbados in December.

Tom added: “It was on his bucket list. And if you had the chance to do it at 100, why wouldn’t you?”
Since his death there have been calls for a permanent tribute, including naming a hospital after him, a memorial in Trafalgar Square and a 50p with his image on it.
It comes after Captain Tom’s daughter revealed his “special” last moments.
