Children hide under desks in fear as school caught in middle of cartel shoot out
Scared school children have been pictured hiding under their classroom desks after getting caught in the crossfire of a Mexican cartel shoot-out.
The scary incident took place at Mario Silva Cortés Elementary School in Sonora, Mexico.
Shockingly, cartel hit men had taken to the streets outside the school and began trying to kill each other.

One group was inside a white SUV, while the other men were on the street.
And the gunfire was all over the place – hitting the school walls in the process.
It happened at 2pm on Thursday (October 20), and video footage of the incident shows the teachers trying to calm their students down while advising them to get under their desks.
None of the pupils were hurt, but some cartel members were – nobody died.
The battle raged after a war broke out between the Caborca cartel and the Los Chapitos group earlier this year.
It stems from the Caborca leader Rafael Caro Quintero's arrest recently.
A spokesman from the Sonora Public Safety group said, just moments after the attacks: “A moment ago there was a direct attack against the crew of a vehicle, in which one was killed and two were injured, in Empalme.
“The security forces of the Navy, State and Municipal Police are on scene, guarding the area. “Secretary of Security Maria Dolores del Rio has made contact with the principal of an elementary school located near the scene of the incident who confirms that the students are safe and fine.

“The corresponding investigations will begin – there is an active operation to find those responsible.
“In addition to the information about the events in Empalme, we confirm that the students of Mario Silva Cortéz elementary school have already left classes and are with their families.
“Regarding the direct attack on three men that occurred near the facilities of this elementary school, the State Police confirms upon initial inspection they found that there are high-powered weapons inside the vehicle.”
In the UK, shooter drills are only undertaken in Jewish schools around the country – which have high security presences on-site at all times.
