Daft Chinese city looks with red buses, fake Big Ben and own Trafalgar Square

A bizarre part of a Chinese city has been built to look exactly like London – and David Beckham is even an ambassador for it.

Red phone boxes, red buses, and an enormous replica of Big Ben are all present as is a mock-up of the Changing of the Guard. The striking similarities are all part of the UK-loving luxury hotel The Londoner, Macau.

Bronze mocks of the famous Landseer lions at the base of Nelson’s Column are at the front of the hotel to welcome guests. Those famous lions are at the base of the iconic column – or at least a 12-metre-high replica of it. It perfectly reflects the details of the UK capital’s original.

In one of the weirder parts of the spectacle, the Changing of the Guards ceremony even features an appearance from an actor dressed as the Late Her Majesty the Queen who announces that it is time for a show. There are, however, a couple of differences.

One such difference comes from the fact the Grenadier Guards don’t parade in front of Buckingham Palace, but rather dance in front of The Crystal Palace. In total, some 20 performers take part in the show, which is on six days a week. Meanwhile, the facade of the building is a recreation of the Houses of Parliament which light up at night and are decorated for Christmas seasonally.

The hotel has a prestigious British connection too, with 14 of the rooms named after Manchester United and Real Madrid Legend David Beckham. For those visitors who fancy taking a ride on a black cab or a red London bus, the former free-kick maestro even makes a digital appearance in the form of a hologram that drives the vehicle past famous landmarks.

Beckham said of the hotel: “This integrated resort feels very personal to me and being part of the development has been an incredible project- not only is it bringing my hometown to Macau, but also the first David Beckham Suites. I can't wait to be back in Macau to see it all – it looks spectacular."

To take things even further there is a replica model of Big Ben called the Elizabeth Tower. It is the same height as the iconic structure in Westminster. It even has a clock that strikes on the hour, but rather than the classic bong, it puts on a one-minute-long visual show.

Elsewhere in the hotel are tributes to iconic spots Abbey Road and 10 Downing Street.
