EIGHT neighbours share £240,000 Lottery win – and reveal epic idea to celebrate
Eight lucky neighbours on one street in Wales are celebrating after scooping a monster £240,000 playing People's Postcode Lottery.
They hit the jackpot after their postcode, NP24 6LG, in the Welsh town of New Tredegar, was drawn as a big winner.
And they're already planning a bumper street party to celebrate the life-changing news.
Among the winners are an NHS nurse, a set of relations and a winner who recently suffered heartbreak at the hands of covid.
Support worker Gareth Walbeoff, 53, lost his father to the pandemic in January. He said: "My poor mum was having to isolate for 10 days, so only I could go to console her, none of the other family could go.
“Then she unfortunately fell and broke her back, she’s up and about now and my niece is taking her to a hospital appointment today. My niece is really good to mum, I couldn’t manage without her. She’s got three children and my nephew has a little girl as well. What I’m going to do is pay for all these kids to have a good holiday in a big 5-star, luxury caravan in Tenby for two weeks!"
He also congratulated his neighbours and added: “In this street we all are like one big family. When it’s safe to do so we’re going to have one hell of a street party!”
Gareth wasn’t the only member of his family to get a call from lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson . One of the other winners was 52-year-old Alan Vaughan whose partner, Nicola, is Gareth’s cousin.
Another winner from the street was NHS nurse Tina Watkins (above) who learned of her windfall while on a break at work. As the cheque was revealed, the 54-year-old clapped with joy and said: “Woo! 30 grand! Oh that’s fantastic, thank you very much!”
Her co-workers cheered on hearing the total and Tina said she would buy her manager, who was holding Tina’s camera phone over the call, ‘a nice big cake.’
Tina already had plans for some of her winnings: She added: “I’ve got a house renovation going on, so I can plough it into that and buy my son a car. What a lovely surprise, I can finish off what I want to do with the house without having to save.
“Maybe a holiday next year. Our holiday to Fuerteventura was cancelled this year, but we might go further afield now.”
People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson sent his congratulations to all the winners. He said: “What a fantastic surprise for our winners in New Tredegar! I can tell it is a really close community, so I was thrilled to bring this great news.
“Congratulations to them and all our other winners today, I’m sure they’ll enjoy their winnings.”
Everyday throughout the April draws one postcode was announced as a £30,000 prize winner. All the players in the postcode won £30,000 for every ticket they hold.
People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.
A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £700 million to date for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.
This draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode Education Trust. The Trust supports charities and good causes which provide education, particularly in emergency situations, through regular grant funding.
