Exact date -9C mini ice age hits UK with a whopping 15 inches of snow forecast
Brits should be bracing themselves as a staggering -9C mini ice age is set to engulf the UK next week.
As temperatures dip well below freezing heavy snow will also fall in all parts of the country, meaning that this year's wacky weather is showing no signs of letting up.
According to advanced weather modelling maps from WX Charts, the icy plunge is due to commence at the end of next week.
On Sunday (March 13) the mercury will fall off a cliff, hitting a baltic -8C or -9C in parts of Scotland.
Northern parts of England won't be much more inviting with lows of -6C to -7C forecast there, whereas in Wales temperatures should hit -3C.
The Midlands and Northern Ireland should just about manage to keep above freezing, and the picture will be very different down south as highs of 10C are forecast around Devon and Cornwall.
However, even those avoiding the Arctic temperatures will still experience some Arctic snow.
On Thursday (March 10) and Friday (March 11) a huge snow front will move across the UK from the west, according to WX Charts, spanning from the south coast to the Scottish Highlands.
Scotland again will be the most afflicted region with a whopping 15 inches expected to settle on the ground by the end of that weekend.
Northern parts of England are apparently set for around 10 inches; Wales, the Midlands and southern regions (including London) for two or three; East Anglia and Northern Ireland for just one.
As part of their long range forecast, the Met Office warn for that period: "Bands of rain with short lived snow may follow, moving northeastwards and probably stalling across central areas at times, with some eastern areas remaining dry.
"Likely to become more unsettled through the period, with Atlantic weather systems perhaps bringing spells of wet and windy weather."
