Fifth man arrested in connection to Denver crime spree, fatal shooting

A fifth man wanted for a crime spree in Denver last week that left an 18-year-old student dead, was taken into custody Wednesday night, according to the Denver Police Department.

Samuel Fussell, 18, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, aggravated motor vehicle theft, first and second-degree burglary and felony menacing.

Fussell was taken into custody in Greeley by the Denver Police Department’s Fugitive Unit, with the assistance of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Greeley Police Department.

Isaiah Freeman and Aden Sides, both 18, Noah Loepp-Hall, 19, and Seth Larhode, 21, were already arrested for the series of crimes.

All five have been connected to the killing of Shmuel Silverberg, a student of Yeshiva Toras Chaim, a Torah school on West Colfax Avenue. Silverberg was shot multiple times, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said.

Silverberg was shot outside of the school and ran back inside the building, with the suspects following him before fleeing, Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said last week.

Denver police said again Thursday that the killing of Silverberg appeared to be random and not bias-motivated.

In a news conferences last week, Denver police laid out a timeline of how the crimes went down. The five allegedly broke into three vehicles the night of Aug. 17, burglarized a business, then robbed and shot a man before shooting Silverberg.

There was a $27,000 reward offered to anyone who could help police find Fussell.
