Horrifying new Israeli suicide drones can ‘come into homes through open windows’

An Israeli company has developed a “miniaturised suicide drone” in the hope of using it to directly target enemies through open windows and doors.

Made by Elbit, which has offices in the UK, the Lanius drone is about the size of an Xbox controller with propellers.

It is equipped with Artificial Intelligence, which scans buildings in real time and identifies enemies – but can only fire on command of a human.

The device can also spot open or locked doors, and tell army officials where it can and can't go easily.

A spokesman said: “Part of the Legion-X robotic and autonomous combat solution, LANIUS is a highly manoeuvrable and versatile drone-based loitering munition designed for short-range operation in the urban environment.

“The system can autonomously scout and map buildings and points of interest for possible threats, detecting, classifying and syncing to Elbit Systems’ Legion-X solutions.

“Lanius can carry lethal or non-lethal payloads, capable of performing a broad spectrum of mission profiles for special forces, military and law enforcement.”

The drone has been nicknamed the “butcher” and is the company's smallest drone.

It was first unveiled in November 2022 but has gained public notoriety in recent weeks due to a promotional video going viral.

One person commented on how an army of them could be used in a single attack.

They tweeted: “The first drone blows up, putting a hole in the window or door or wall, and the subsequent drones go right through it.

“Also, there's a US company that makes a police drone with a window-breaking hammer on the front.

“Windows are not going to be an obstacle.”

It is not clear whether or not Israel has used it during recent action on terror targets in Hamas-controlled areas of the West Bank.

The company has nine locations in the UK, including in London and Greater Manchester.
