Horror find as 20 bags full of human remains discovered in hidden grave

Twenty bags containing the remains of an unknown number of people have been found by search teams in Mexico.

People from the Search Mothers Collectives of Jalisco and Sonora made the grim discovery in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga in Jalisco, on the outskirts of Guadalajara.

Work is now expected to be carried on by the Prosecutor’s Office, which will continue to investigate the site of the horrifying find.

The founder of the Sonora collective, Cecilia Flores, said that the bags had been discovered after the collective was called to a house called La Piedrera, in the Arvento subdivision.

Although search teams said that 20 bags had been found, it isn't currently clear how many different people's remains were involved.

At the time of writing, six separate skulls had been pulled from the site, Borderland Beat reported.

Ms Flores said: "There are more than 20 bags, but many were buried. We don't know how many bodies are involved, but we were able to see six skulls among the bags".

An anonymous complaint is understood to have alerted the collective to the site and sent tips via social media that human remains may have been uncovered.

In a tweet translated by Paudal, Ms Flores said: “In Jalisco today we find human remains. We had no support from any government to mobilize and we had to do it with our own resources. Thanks to the families who contributed.”

Discoveries by the Search Mothers Collective or Madres Buscadores of Sonora, are an unpleasantly common occurrence.

In February of this year, in Jalisco again, the bodies of 18 people were dug up by the Mothers.

In January 2021, they discovered the remains of 10 people in Guaymas, Sonora.

They have made over 200 similar finds since they were formed in 2019 with their teams comprising of around 30 women who work with little more than shovels.
