I-70 closed westbound at Tower road by trash truck rollover

Westbound Interstate 70 is closed at Tower Road by a rollover crash involving a trash truck, Aurora police said.

Westbound lanes are closed and traffic is being detoured off the highway onto Tower, police said in a 3:10 p.m. Thursday tweet.

A hazardous materials team from Aurora Fire Rescue is at the scene. The truck was leaking compressed natural gas, but the leak has been stopped, AFR said on Twitter.

Initially, the highway was shut down, for a brief period, in both directions, police said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Cleanup and towing the truck is expected to take “extended time,” police said. Drivers should avoid the stretch if possible.
