Israel has deployed ground forces in Gaza and ramped up air strikes in the region — just the latest escalation in the bloody conflict with Palestinian militia groups.

The assault comes after Hamas groups stepped up their rocket assault on Israel, prompting the Israeli military on Thursday to ramp up their response with a bombardment of artillery and tanks — with three brigades at the ready.

“IDF air and ground troops are currently attacking the Gaza Strip,” Israel Defense Forces said in a Twitter post.

The extent of the ground assault is not immediately clear, but Israeli forces also ramped up airstrikes in the region, the Washington Post reported.

The Israeli military has hit over 700 Hamas targets since Monday after a barrage of rockets were launched in the country by Hamas — a retaliatory strike dubbed by Israeli officials as Operation Guardians of the Walls, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Authorities said at least 87 people have been killed in Gaza since hostilities began, with at least seven killed in Israel, including a 5-year-old boy.
