Kinder chocolate factory pauses production line after salmonella discovered

The Kinder chocolate plant in Belgium has had to temporarily stop part of its production for a full sanitisation of the site following the discovery of salmonella in the environment.

It has been confirmed no final products were contaminated with the bacteria and in a press release, the Ferrero Group said jobs would not be affected as there would be “no impact on employment”.

The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain term ‘environment’ does not mean in food products, the company says no final products have tested positive and no products have left the facilities.

After such outbreaks, it is important health authorities are contacted. The Ferrero Group added: “Following the finding of salmonella at the Ferrero Arlon plant (Belgium), during checks carried out by our teams as part of enhanced controls, we took the decision to temporarily pause the concerned production last week.”

“Part of the production lines remain suspended, in order to carry out the necessary cleaning and sanitation measures.

“Every step of the process is carried out in full and transparent co-operation with the Belgium Food Safety Authority.”
