A man allegedly attacked children in a small playground in France, with eight victims injured, according to reports.
The attack took place in Annecy, a town in southeastern France. Children from the Quai Jules Philippe School were at the site at the time, and rushed back to the school.
The man apparently attacked in the Jardins de l'Europe, a popular lakeside picnic and walking spot that has a children's park, inside Le Pâquier d'Annecy.
Six children and an adult were stabbed in the playground, France Bleu reported.
The assailant, who wore a turban according to witnesses, was subdued and later arrested.
Antoine Armand, Member of Parliament for Haute-Savoie, tweeted: "Abominable knife attack on children in a playground in Annecy. We still know very little but all my support for the victims, relatives, law enforcement and rescue. With you in mind."
"Several people, including children, were injured by an individual armed with a knife in a square in Annecy. The individual was arrested thanks to the very rapid intervention of the police", minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is reportedly heading to the site.
