Kremlin red-faced as Ukraine comes within inches of attacking Moscow
Ukraine: Aftermath of Russian missile attacks on Odesa
Russia has claimed that its air defenses shot down a Ukrainian military drone overnight. There were no casualties following the incident.
“This night, an enemy drone attempted to carry out an attack and was shot down by forces of the Defense Ministry,” Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said.
On Monday, July 24, Sobyanin said that Moscow’s defense forces “suppressed” two Ukrainian drones that slammed into buildings in the capital – one close to the defense ministry headquarters.
Officials claimed one drone was shot down near Komsomolsky Avenue while the other crashed into a high-rise building on Likhachev Avenue.
Ukraine claimed responsibility for the attack earlier this week which was thought to be retaliation for Russian strikes in the port city of Odesa.

“Missiles against peaceful cities, against residential buildings, a cathedral. There will definitely be retaliation against Russian terrorists for Odesa,” Ukraine’s President Zelensky said of the strikes.
Russia has been carrying out attacks on the port city since it pulled out of a deal with Ukraine that would allow Kyiv to safely ship grain through the Black Sea corridor.
Moscow has targeted grain stores in Odesa and elsewhere in the country as well as other civilian infrastructure. Earlier this week, a Russian missile hit the UNESCO-listed Transfiguration Cathedral badly damaging the church.

At least one person died and 19 others – including four children – were wounded in those missile strikes on Odesa.
The news comes as Kyiv launches what US officials have called the main thrust of its counteroffensive in Zaporizhzhia Oblast in the south of the country.
There have been reports that mechanized forces have broken through some Russian defenses there. If Ukraine is able to exploit these weak points it could open up a front that has been largely static since the counteroffensive began earlier this summer.
