Lottery winner who burned through £11million fortune is now selling windows

A bloke who bagged a whopping £11million on the National Lottery has returned to a a normal working life, 18 years later.

Mark Gardiner, 61, and business partner Paul Maddison won more than £22million in 1995.

They shared the life-changing winnings, and the man from St Leonards-On-Sea, East Sussex has had an up-and-down time of it since then.

A series of bad investments saw several millions go by the wayside, as did his fourth wife Brenda.

However, he made some sensible investments – such as putting money into Hastings United Football Club for a while and he put £2million into his company, Croft Glass.

And this is where his journey has gone back down to Earth, because he now runs the company, while doing measuring, surveying and ordering.

Looking back at that time, he told The Sun said: “Don’t get me wrong, if I won the lottery now at 61, I’d have done so many different things.

“I’d have stopped work.

“I decided to invest money into it (the company).

“I wanted to see if I had the ability, the skill and the knowledge to take it further – It was like a test and I have passed.

“I don’t worry that if I take the day off I won’t be able to pay my staff’s wages.”

He is still involved in football, owning a local club in Hastings, and has bought a home in Barbados – so it's not all gone pear-shaped for the former winner.

And yes, he still plays the lottery every week using the same numbers he won with in 1995.

As for the fate of his former business partner Paul, Mark claims that the bloke is a Jehovah's Witness and is living in Scotland.

He has no idea what happened to his winnings, and would not confirm if the pair are still speaking or not.
