The suspected shooter of notorious Melbourne underworld figure Gavin “Capable” Preston, who was killed in a daylight ambush attack at a Keilor cafe last month, has been arrested in Sydney.
Victoria Police confirmed on Wednesday morning a 22-year-old man was arrested without incident in an early morning raid in Bradbury, in south-west Sydney, and will now be interviewed.

“Warrants were executed by Victoria Police and NSW Police from 6am on October 25 at residential properties in Bradbury, Yagoona and Campbelltown,” the police statement said.
“Today’s arrest and warrants follow an incident outside a cafe in Keilor on 9 September where one man was killed and one was seriously injured.”
Terrified brunch patrons jumped for their lives as a killer dressed in black ran up to a cafe on a quiet suburban shopping strip in Keilor Village, in Melbourne’s north-west, and fired at Preston while he sat at a table on the footpath.
The 50-year-old died while the man he was dining with, Abbas Jr “AJ” Maghnie, the son of late underworld enforcer Nabil Maghnie, was seriously injured.
Preston, who had been waging bloody feuds with rivals in Melbourne’s gangland scene, was released from prison earlier this year after serving a long sentence over the shooting death of a drug trafficker.
More to come.
