Man sleeping in tent hit by driver Westminster Police Department says
A driver ran off Interstate 25 in Westminster early Saturday morning, hitting a man who was sleeping in a tent off of the highway.
The incident happened about 3:15 a.m. on southbound I-25 at 136th Avenue, according to the Westminster Police Department. The injured man, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The 23-year-old driver who went of the highway was trying to avoid another vehicle, police said in a news release. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault DUI and was taken to the Adams County Jail.
Winter weather driving conditions and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
