Man ‘thrown off cliff’ in mystery killing sparks police probe with two arrested
Police have launched an investigation following reports that a man was thrown off a cliff in Ireland. County Donegal Gardai said the department had received information that a man was assaulted and thrown into the sea from Sliabh Liag, also known as Slieve League, a mountain range on the Atlantic coast. Investigators will comb the area in search of the body of a victim said to be 67 years old, who was reportedly attacked at a property in the Killybegs area.
The Sun reported that Gardai investigators suspect the victim was attacked at a property sometime between Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25.
The Gardai reportedly theorised that the victim was then driven to the cliffs – some of the highest accessible to the public in Europe – in a car.
Officials arrested two people, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, following the alleged incident, but they were released without charge on Tuesday, June 27.
In a statement that evening, Gardai confirmed the two were arrested “in connection” with the Sliabh Liag investigation.

The statement read: “Gardaí in Ballyshannon continue to investigate an incident that occurred in the Slieve League / Killybegs area in County Donegal between Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, 2023.
“The two people arrested in connection with this investigation were released without charge this evening.”
Officers have closed Sliabh Liag to the public during the ongoing investigation, with the Irish Coast Guard assisting in the search.
The service said it had dispatched a Rescue 118 helicopter to scour the Sliabh Liag area.

Police have now appealed for help to road users and any other potential witnesses.
Investigators have asked anyone travelling in the vicinity of Sliabh Liag between June 24 and 25 who may have video camera footage to come forward.
Anyone who captured a video on camera or dash cam should contact the Ballyshannon Garda Station, which is reachable at 071 985 8530.
