Marine engineers make a barmy boat out of skip 125kg and outboard motor

MARINE engineers Jake Harris and Sam Newstead made a barmy boat — a skip with a 5hp outboard motor attached.

Jake, 33, and Sam, 31, rightly believed the 125kg 12ft skip would float if they plugged its drainage holes.

After lowering it by crane into the River Medway, Kent, Jake said: “We couldn’t believe how well it worked.”

The pals dreamt up the whacky scheme over a few beers after a hard day's work at Sam's South East Marine Engineering yard at Rochester.

They plugged the drainage holes in the bottom of the skip and bolted on a 5hp, two-stroke motor.

The pair then used a crane to lower the container into the water – and were delighted when it floated.

They were even more chuffed when they started the motor and their cutting edge craft chugged along like a normal boat.

Their skip was hired from Ky Campion, 38, at East Kent Recycling.

He said: "When I saw the video I was amazed and thought it was a stroke of genius."
