Mysterious animal that baffled experts on the run after escaping rescue facility
A mystery animal that left scientists baffled is on the run after escaping a rescue facility in America.
The animal, which has a rather long snout, was rescued by Christina Eyth after she noticed paw prints outside of her house in Pennsylvania last week.
Christina said she coaxed the "cold and shivering" creature into her basement and contacted TJ’s Rescue Hideaway who helped transport the animal to Wildlife Works, a wildlife rescue group.
"I wasn't quite sure [what it was] but it was scared, and it was cold and all I could think about was this animal needed help," she said at the time.
The rescue centre treated the animal for mange and kept it in isolation as it awaited DNA results to find out its identity.
Morgan Barron, who works for Wildlife Works, said the animal could be a coyote but highlighted that its "timid" nature made her think it could be a dog.
"They transported it here and I honestly can’t definitively say what it is," she previously said.
But before experts could get a definitive answer, the animal reportedly chewed through its cage, wrecked the room it was being cared for in, and hopped out of a window.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Wildlife Works said: “We had him for about a week, during which time he ate nutritious food and received treatment for his mange and secondary infections.
"We can only guess he was starting to feel somewhat better and decided it was time to go."
Following their update, the organisation said they were bombarded with hate messages after the creature fled their facility, reports The Denver Channel.

On Monday, they said: "Many thanks to all the folks who reached out to us with messages of love and support. It far outweighed the nastiness and naysayers.
"Rest assured we have learned a lot from this experience and will be better prepared in the future."
The organisation are believed to still be waiting on the DNA results.
