Pentagon launches probe into UFO sightings after claims defense department ‘failed to log’ flying object reports
THE Pentagon is launching a probe into a string of UFO sightings after the Department of Defense "failed to log" the reports of flying objects.
It will investigate the extent of what action the DoD has taken regarding the "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" or UAP, spotted by military aircraft.
It was revealed in a memo sent to military and intelligence leaders by Randolph Stone, the assistant inspector general for evaluations on space, intelligence, engineering, and oversight, heading the inquiry.
"We may revise the objective as the evaluation proceeds, and we will consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives," Stone said.
His office usually focuses on investigating claims from whistleblowers as well as allegations of wrongdoing.
After years of multiple unexplained sightings observed by the military, the Pentagon created the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force.
It is responsible for detecting, analyzing and cataloging UFO's that may pose a risk to US national security and was formed to better understand "the nature and origins of UAPs."
The revelation of the probe comes as the Pentagon and US intelligence agencies compile a report to be submitted to Congress, regarding the continuing presence of unidentified objects in the skies.
Just a month ago, the Pentagon confirmed the authenticity of footage taken by Navy personnel in 2019, showing triangle-shaped objects flying through the clouds and 'blinking'.
An ex-Pentagon investigator, Luis Elizondo, who headed up the secretive Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), told The US Sun that there are UFO's flying over the US – and the military doesn't know what to do about them.
"I am not a UFO guy, I am an investigator, my job was simple, to collect the data and speak the truth," Mr Elizondo told The US Sun.
"There is something in our skies, we don’t know what it is, we don’t know how it works, we don’t know fully what it can do, we don’t know who is behind the wheel, we don’t know its intentions, and there isn’t a damn thing we can do about it.
"They are real, the question is what are they and what are we going to do about," he said, suggesting it is a "potential catastrophic failure of intelligence".
There have been increasing calls to discipline US bureaucrats who have ignored evidence of UFO's, with a former British defense official saying they should face a "reckoning."
Former UK Ministry of Defence UFO investigator Nick Pope told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson a soon to be published report must give clear explanations for encounters.
He said "satellite imagery of all of this and some of the speeds being reported seem to blow the theory about foreign drones out of the water."
Pope said there is now a "large amount of data from pilots, radar operators, satellite data, measurement and signature intelligence."
"There's such a lot of information now, so much that the U.S. Navy has instructions for its pilots on what to do if they encounter these things.
"Now, I think as we go into May, the run-up to this report going to Congress, there's going to be a lot of things going on behind the scenes, a lot of politicking.
"I anticipate more leaks of information, photos, videos, documents. There's a lot more to come here."
