People trapped after huge explosion rips through apartment block

A huge gas explosion has ripped through an apartment block, with people feared to be trapped inside.

The incident occurred at the Arrive Perimeter apartments in DeKalb County, Georgia, US, moments ago.

Police have confirmed multiple people are trapped and injured.

"At 1:24pm, we received calls regarding an explosion at the Arrive Apartments," Dunwoody Police tweeted.

"We are on scene with the Dekalb Co. and Sandy Springs Fire Dept. This is a very active scene and the cause of the explosion is under investigation.

"We will put out more when known."

Twitter user @shoutout2dekaye, who was at the scene, shared a video showing the side of a building completely destroyed.

Firefighters could be seen assessing the damage as sirens wail in the background.

“If y’all know anyone who lives at Arrive Perimeter apartments check on them,” he wrote.

“A gas line blew up at the entrance and several people are trapped inside of the building.”
