Popular shopping TV channel is suspended with website also shut down – leaving 250 staff members facing lay-offs

  • Company announced on Facebook it had to ‘temporarily suspend broadcasting’

A popular TV shopping channel has been suspended and its website has also been shut down, leaving 250 staff members facing lay-offs.

Ideal World TV announced in a post on its website and Facebook page: ‘We regret to inform you that Ideal World have had to temporarily suspend broadcasting and our website.

‘We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused; we hope to be back online as soon as possible.’

The Peterborough-based channel calls itself ‘the home of big brands’ and has featured celebrities like Vanessa Feltz, former Made In Chelsea star Binky Felstead and Anthea Turner.

It was live on air for 18 hours a day for products from different categories like gardening, home, technology and beauty.

While Ideal World TV has held a late night slot on ITV in recent months, it suddenly ‘crashed off’ the channel on Monday night in addition to disappearing from Virgin Media last month, according to the Sun.

Just a year ago the company was broken up and sold to Hamish Morjaria, but it has since been revealed that the entrepreneur gave up ‘significant control’ in February.

In the beginning of June, sportsdirect.com Retail Ltd took charge of the channel.

However, the Peterborough Telegraph has reported that Ideal World TV has been put up for sale with offers being accepted until the end of last week.

The sale of Ideal World to Mr Morjaria came just a month after the channel’s sister brand Create and Craft was sold to Hochandra Global.

The company was created by Paul Wright and Valarie Kaye in 2015. They had founded Ideal World before selling it in 2000.
