Proud BMW owner left heartbroken after his brand new car plunges through the ice when he took it out for a spin on a frozen river
THE proud owner of a BMW he had just bought decided to test the car on a frozen river only for it to plunge straight through the ice.
Police received a call reporting a car sinking in the Gluszynka river in the western Polish village of Kamionki.
The front part of the black BMW was totally underwater already, said the caller.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found nobody around. Police spokeswoman Patrycja Banaszak said: "Nobody was there. The car had its front door and boot open.
"The rear plate was removed but the hologram on the windscreen was visible and allowed us to determine the owner."
However, when they went to the registered owner’s address, he told them he had sold the car the day before.
When the police came back to the river they found a group of men, including the car’s new owner, trying to haul it out of the water.

He confessed that he had driven the vehicle on to the ice and was fined for careless driving, though he did not say what had prompted the stunt.
The man and his friends, who were all unnamed in reports, succeeded in removing the car from the river but he told police that it was so damaged that he would be scrapping it.
Pictures seem to show a toboggan attached to the rear of the car, perhaps suggesting the automotive calamity was some kind of stunt gone wrong
