Queen’s Guard knocks over young boy while marching on duty as onlookers gasp

A member of the Queen's Guard has been filmed knocking over a young boy in front of a horrified crowd during a patrol march at the Tower of London.

The soldier, a Coldstream Guard – a division with a ceremonial role of providing protection for royal palaces – is filmed marching before a child appears to step out in front of him.

The guard can be heard shouting to warn him to get out of the way but the child is looking in the opposite direction.

The child appears to be knocked to the ground, and as the soldier stumbles to try to miss the boy, he appears to tread on his foot.

The guard, marching with a fellow soldier, continues on after the incident.

In the viral video circulating on social media, a cry can be heard before the guard collides with the child who was stood in their path.

Onlookers can be heard gasping in shock as the kid falls to the ground and then quickly gets back to his feet, appearing relatively unscathed by the bulldozing.

The lad was visiting on holiday, according to the caption of the video, which was posted to TikTok.

The clip has racked up 1.2 million views since its upload on December 28, and has users asking who was in the wrong.

A group of viewers argued the guard could have used common sense and avoided knocking down the child.

One person wrote: "That child isn't dangerous I get it's their job but it's a child there was no reason to do that."

A second user posted: "To all the people saying they're just doing their job. If your job involves trampling children therein lies the problem."

Another user agreed, writing: "It wouldn't kill the guard to walk around the child, if it's adults in the way I understand but if it's a child you can make an exception."

Others reminded users that these were professional guards tasked with protecting the Queen.

One person said: "Watch all these ppl get pressed about the royal guards doing their job. you don't move? you get trampled. easy."

Another wrote: "I blame the parents, absolutely no awareness of their surroundings."

A third added: "People don't understand that those guards aren't there for tourist attraction and are highly trained SOLDIERS there to protect the QUEEN."

An Army spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident at the Tower of London earlier today during a routine patrol."

They added that the Guardsmen on duty had "warned members of the public that a patrol was approaching, but the child, unfortunately, ran out in front of the soldier unexpectedly".

"The soldier tried to step over the child and continued on his duty," the spokesperson added.

"Following the incident, the soldier checked on the child and was reassured that all was well."

A spokesperson from the Tower of London said: "We are aware of this incident and were sorry to see this.

"The guard at the Tower do take care to warn the public when they're moving, and this was an unfortunate accident. Our staff and the soldier checked in on the family afterwards, and were reassured that all was well."
