  • Human remains and a suitcase have been found near to where a teenager disappeared without a trace 15 years ago.

Amy Fitzpatrick, 15, from Dublin, disappeared on New Year’s Day in 2008 in Spain and hasn't been heard from since.

Amy, her mum Audrey, stepdad Dave Mahon and her late brother Dean lived at the time in Mijas Costa, between Malaga and Marbella. She spent New Year’s Eve with her friends, Ashley and Debbie Rose, and disappeared on the way back home from the Rose household at around 10pm.

Amy is still missing to this day, with authorities struggling to make any leads. Now a skull, bones and a suitcase have been found in the area and aunt Christine Kenny thinks the remains may be Amy's, the Mirror reports.

"The body was found in the hills near Mijas and the reckon the body has been there over a decade," she said. "There is a possibility that it could be Amy, though, as there was a satchel bag found with the remains, and Amy used to have a similar type bag.

"They reckon, though, from the bone structure that it’s of a woman aged between 25 and 30, or thereabouts. But it takes ages for that type of thing to be dealt with."

Christine recently met Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin. She has been representing the family and trying to pressure the authorities in Spain to put more resources into the search.

Amy was reported missing on January 3, 2008. Both her best friend Ashley and her mother Debbie said that Amy always had her phone with her, even on that night.

They said that the 15-year-old hated her stepfather, who went on to kill her brother Dean in 2013. Her phone was eventually found in their apartment – a find which has never been explained.

Last year, Audrey told the Irish Mirror that her daughter was allegedly paid by drug lords while they went on "drug runs." She said: “I didn’t know anything about this. I was told she would sit in the front of the car like somebody’s daughter.

“These men were in their 40s or 50s and she sat there and got paid for just being there in the car.”

She said that, she believed Amy was shopping or with friends whenever she was out. Alan Quieros, who was one of Amy's friends, claimed they had a mysterious online conversation after Audrey cancelled her flights home to Ireland.

Amy told Alan: "I love you, Happy New Year, and don’t worry about me, I’ve got a scheme."

An anonymous woman has been contacting Amy's aunt with information and claiming she knew the people involved in Amy's disappearance.

"This lady has never been given her name, but she has been giving information over the years", Christine explained.

"This information has eventually found its way to me through sources. I haven’t got around to all the bits and pieces. There are about 21 pages in it and it’s ongoing."
