Perched on Turkey’s southwest coast, Antalya offers a warm winter escape with its splendid blend of sun-soaked beaches, ancient history, and vibrant bazaars.
Even in December, Antalya usually remains pleasantly warm, making it an ideal spot to escape the cold.
The nation’s fifth most populous city boasts an average high of 18C and an average low of 7C with rainfall occurring over seven days, and generally sunny skies.
Antalya is also very well-connected and boasts flights from major European cities, including London Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, Newcastle and more. It is also accessible by bus from other Turkish cities and by ferry from some Mediterranean destinations.
The city’s old town, Kaleiçi, is a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets lined with Ottoman-era houses, rustic cafes, and charming shops.
Upon visting, a must-see is the imposing Hadrian’s Gate, a significant monument of Antalya.
Other notable landmarks include the picturesque marina, and the views from Hidirlik Tower.
For a dose of retail therapy, the local Antalya bazaars offer a colourful array of Turkish rugs, pottery, and spices. Keep in mind that bargaining is common in local markets and shops, and don’t hesitate to negotiate prices to get a better deal, especially in the open-air markets.

There are also famous ancient ruins of Perge and Aspendos, and you can learn the region’s history at the Antalya Museum. After all the vitising, endulge in a traditional baklava or hearty kebab as a tasty treat.
