UK to see dramatic shift in temperatures following hottest day of year so far

Britons face a potentially dramatic change in the weather as the current warm conditions could be followed by rainfall and the possibility of storms.

According to forecasters, the spring bank holiday saw Tuesday (May 30) proving the hottest day of the year so far as the mercury hit 25C in some parts of the country.

There is more to come, with the Met Office saying that the sunny weather will continue, but that wetter conditions could be on their way as well.

Forecaster Greg Dewhurst explained that blue skies could soon turn grey, with the possibility of a downpour.

The meteorologist told the Daily Mirror that this week will remain warm and dry, depending on where you are in the UK, explaining: "Very little is changing over the rest of the week.

"We've got high pressure to the north west bringing settled weather and light winds, but around the south east particularly expect it to be a bit more breezy.

"That pressure isn't going anywhere just yet so we'll continue to see the best of the sunshine this week. The temperatures may not be quite as high as recent days, maybe coming down to 22C max," adding: "Across the east it'll be much cooler, maybe 12-14C."

Mr Dewhurst went on to say: "Gradually we could see temperatures rise next week and an increased risk of heavy showers.

"It might feel more humid through the middle of next week onwards. Potentially some showers could turn heavy, and perhaps even thundery."

The Met Office predicts June to be: "Staying dry with high pressure remaining dominant. Plenty of strong sunshine but some cloud is likely at times, mainly during the mornings. Warm days, albeit cool overnight. Breezy at times."
