Ukrainians taunt Putin with ‘what’s next’ after Moskva warship and Crimea bridge

In the wake of the destruction of the Kerch bridge from Russia to Crimea, Ukraine’s Defence ministry has been wickedly trolling Vladimir Putin.

The Kerch bridge has long been a symbol of the Russian occupation of Crimea, which was the first Ukrainian territory annexed by the Russians back in 2014.

And now like the Moskva, flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, it has been targeted by the Ukrainians.

Rubbing salt into the wound, Ukraine’s Defence ministry tweeted: “The guided missile cruiser Moskva and the Kerch Bridge – two notorious symbols of Russian power in Ukrainian Crimea – have gone down.

“What’s next in line, Russkies?”

Elizabeth Tsurkov, a fellow at the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy in Washington DC, has pointed out that only a few months ago Russia was claiming that the Kerch bridge could never be attacked.

“Only 3 months ago,” she tweeted, “Russian propaganda was claiming that the Crimea bridge was impossible to attack because of 20 different modes of protection covering it, including military dolphins. What a colossal failure”

It’s still unclear exactly how the bridge was damaged, with Russian reports saying a fuel tanker blew up, but video of the scene seems to show most of the damage on the bridge’s rail sction.

David Arakhamia, the leader of the Servant of the People party, wrote on Telegram: “Russian illegal construction is starting to fall apart and catch fire. The reason is simple: if you build something explosive, then sooner or later it will explode”

“And this is just the beginning,” he added “Of all things, reliable construction is not something Russia is particularly famous for”.

Ukraine’s president, Volodomyr Zelenskyy, has called for strikes on Russia itself and growing fears that Putin is preparing his people for a nuclear strike on Kiev.

In a video broadcast, President Zelenskyy said: “What should NATO do? Eliminate the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons”.

“We need pre-emptive strikes,” he said, “so they’ll know what will happen to them if they use nukes – not the other way around”.

He stressed that now was the time to act, saying: “We should not wait for Russia’s nuclear strikes and then say ‘Oh, since you did this, take that from us!’”.
